REVIEW OF CONFIDENCE OF ADVISING “MAY BE FIT FOR WORK” FOR CLINICIANS IN PRIMARY CARE

I.A. Aina, North East London ICB, UK

Please note that this QIP has not yet been completed but enough PDSA cycles to produce a poster will have been completed by May 2024

Background

In 2010 GP sick notes were replaced with FIT notes. This introduced the section “may be fit for work”. This change aimed to provide more information about the effect of the condition on the individual and to give advice about reasonable adjustments to support patients staying in work.  From July 2022 FIT notes can be certified and issued by non-GP clinicians such as nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists

Aims

The aim of this Quality improvement project is to review how many FIT notes within a 1 month period have been ticked as “may be fit for work” , to review clinician confidence on giving advice on reasonable adjustments and to review if this improves after providing guidance and teaching.

Method

Using EMIS to review a sample of 20 FIT notes written  within 1 week period , review how many had been noted as “may be fit for work” and if there was advice added. A questionnaire is sent to clinicians who complete FIT notes o assess their confidence. A presentation during the practice meeting is produced to highlight areas to improve and give suggested teaching.
